3)    If the problem is electrical, and affects buildings with elevators, the Department of Safety will check for stranded people in elevators and render assistance.

4)    If the problem affects Residence Halls, the Residence Life Director will be notified.  If the curtailment is prolonged, or renders the buildings unsafe for occupancy, students will be temporarily relocated to buildings where heat and/or electricity is provided.  The following buildings have emergency power generators:

Information Center/Campus Police

Prothro Commons/Meta Glass

Power House

Telephone Building

Sweet Briar House

7)    The Director of Dining Services will be notified.  Prothro Commons will be utilized as temporary shelter until utilities are restored.

8)    If the curtailment is prolonged, the 381-HELP line will be activated, and will contain information on the status of the situation.  This information will be updated as needed.

9)    Once utilities are restored, Physical Plant will ensure all building mechanical devices are restarted, reset, and functioning properly.

10) Students, faculty, and/or staff in need of counseling services following the emergency will be referred to the ChaplainŐs Office, the Health Center or the Employee Assistance Program (EAP) as appropriate.

NOTE:  All emergency power generators should be checked and preventive maintenance performed on a scheduled basis to ensure proper operation during time of need.
